In reading the 8th chapter of Hebrews yesterday, I came across this verse:
"Now the point in what we are saying is this..." (it is verse 1 of the chapter, actually)
Well, the meaning of the verse and the chapter is not the point of this post... so you will have to read it for yourself.
But here is the point...
My Bible has a fair number of footnotes, and I tend to read most of them as I read a given passage of Scripture. So I read this verse... glanced down for a footnote... and found one. Now the format of the footnotes in my Bible is pretty important to my point. The words being discussed in the footnote are in bold, followed by the commentary/explanation/etc. So here is how the footnote reads in my Bible:
8:1 Now the point in what...are saying is this - [explanation of the verse, etc, etc.]
Does anyone see this as odd like I do? I mean I am curious to know if I am too analytical/critical or if others see what I see.

Hmm... your footnotes must not be inspired.
Are you referrring to the fact that they omitted the word "we" and substituted the ellipses, supposedly all for the sake of reducing type-space?
YES.. that is exactly what I am talking about. Why did they do that? I am laughing at myself for even asking the question... but how did the editor not catch that?
I agree that it seems silly. I wouldn't buy a new Bible over it though. :-)
I'm cracking up, because...even though I spotted the thing you noticed straight away...due to the most recent posts about being reflective, I was working so hard to find some hidden oddity. HAH!
I find it curious that you used four ellipses before you wrote the footnote heading.
To be fair to the editors of the Bible I have, I am mistaken on the actual verse. It is actually verse 9:5. Regardless, the same two letter word was removed and replaced with an ellipses.
And you can see in my writing, I am a big fan of the ellipses. However, I used them more as a sign of "trailing thought." I am also a fan of the quotes. But I digress... that will have to be discussed in a future blog entry.
You are the master of the finger quotes Todd. Of this, there is no doubt.
Yes, that ... odd.
