Confessions

I am taking the example of my great friend (and simply perfect stand-in date #1) Laurie Johnson, and I will offer up a confession of my own.

I watch the Food Channel. I watch it. There - I have said it for all the world to read. I watch Rachel Ray... Bobbly Flay... Emeril Lagasse... Paula Dean... (and, guys, my personal favorite) Giada De Laurentiis. (there are others, but blog confessoins don't have to be 100% complete, right?)

The wierd thing is that I clearly can't taste or smell anything that is being cooked... but I certainly do imagine how good the food must be. I mean seriously, they wouldn't be on TV is the food wasn't good. Right?

Now I do NOT schedule my days and nights around these shows... and I do not Tivo them. I have never set my VHS to channel 52, but I do flip to it on a regular basis just to see who is creating what for my imagination to enjoy.

Now many of these chef hosts are a little on the annoying side. A few examples:

Rachel Ray. She is kinda like a train wreck. I just can't look away because I want to see what the final product will be. So I sit through all the hand motions and all the cheesy giggles and all the "EVOO..Extra Virgin Olive Oil" remarks.

Emeril. Well, he just needs to kick it down a notch.

Paula Dean. She is sweet like sugar, but it just rings of... oh how can I say this... "Fake Southern Charm." If she really is that sweet, I want to marry into her family somehow.

Bobby Flay. This guy is the only one who is not annoying. I think I would hang out with this guy because he is... well, normal. At least he appears to be on his shows.

Giada De Laurentiis. Wow. I mean seriously, guys... check out Food TV just to see her. She is strikingly beautiful (in my humble but accurate opinion). She is not annoying either - for that proverbial record.

So there you have it. Todd Richards is a fan of Food TV. Who's with me?

(Judging by the fact that most of my readership is missing a Y chromosome, I expect to get lots of agreement. However, some support from the fellas would be appreciated)

I am with you 100%. I love watching the Food Network and feel like I am vicariously cooking up fabulous and effortless meals all while vegging on my couch. And this entry make me happy. What girl could ask for a better compliment than being called a great friend and a simply perfect stand-in date?!? Sigh.

I tout the food network. Don't forget Alton Brown (i think that's his name). He is the most informative in my opinion. Keep watching it and don't feel bad about it. Heck, shun the guys that don't. Who doesn't like food? Nobody can resist unwrapped either. If you catch 5 seconds of it, you are watching the rest of the show.

Alton's great. I haven't watched FoodTV much in the last couple of years (haven't had cable since I got my new place), but I'll probably be resubbing soon.

Bobby Flay always reminds me of Daniel Hugh Kelly from "Hardcastle & McCormick."

My fav used to be the Thirsty Traveler, until they moved it to the Fine Living network.

Speaking of, come visit on Monday nights sometime if you're thirsty...

I'm all about the TLC channel and yes, my days revolve around it!!! :) I very seldom turn to the food channel...it just makes me want to eat and after having a baby...I have weight to lose!!

Totally impressed Chet responded!!

Emeril is good for schtick entertainment value in the same way Justin Wilson was. I have to say I'm an old school, unapologetic Chef Tel fan. For the best food TV experience there is no comparison--Iron Chef beats all comers. Especially with dubbed-in English voice overs. It reminds me of watching Bruce Lee movies when I was a kid.

As long as you're not watching it while eating a salad I think you're ok. :)

Be very impressed, shandrum. I will respond on your blog when a response is warranted.

Iron chef is sweet. That dude on the floor that always interrupts with "kakoo-i-san" or whatever it is he says. ..."kakoo-i-san!" "yes." "I just talked to the challenger and he said that he will use the squid's guts in an ice cream pie."

Since I am newly retired (or just lazy) I definately watch and TIVO food network- Paula Dean has to be related to Kathy Nelson with that laugh - makes me feel like I'm back in Louisiana. I love Iron Chef too and Chet I'd love a waz up on my blog from you and you to Todd - although you would be totally not interested in my latest post re: swimsuits:)

When I was off work for 4 months on medical leave, I completely became addicted to the Food Network! It was much better to fill my day with Paula Dean and Rachel Ray than soap operas or Jerry Springer!!

I want to marry into Paula Dean's family too. But mostly because of her cute sons. :) And then surely I'd learn to cook a little too.

OK, I had to laugh at Chet's comment- Chris and I laugh all the time at the kakookisan comments on Iron Chef- it cracks me up every time!

Why do I feel like I've had this conversation already? :) Sorry to be the one to crush your dreams by telling you the Giada was married!
